Psychowhat?
Beginning psychotherapy is often a meaningful, sometimes life-changing decision, but it can be difficult to navigate at the start. Commencing your psychotherapy journey may feel like a big step - perhaps even somewhat confusing or daunting. You might find yourself wondering what all the different terms mean and how to find the “right” therapist.
I trained as a psychodynamic psychotherapist, which means I am interested in what is going on beneath the surface, for example, your thoughts, feelings, and impulses. Some of these pieces of information may already be familiar to you, while new insights may come to the surface during our work together. Working with your unconscious can prove invaluable, because our unconscious can shape how we experience ourselves, the people around us and the outside world. Therefore, psychodynamic psychotherapy is non-directive and works with free association, where you are invited to bring whatever comes to mind. Often, it is through open exploration that a deeper understanding begins to emerge.
Most importantly, there is no “right” or “wrong” way to do therapy. You can bring yourself to the session as you are.
